P. Bibby's Big Adventure

This morning P. Bibby went to Primary Children's hospital to have her CT scan to figure out what is going on with her face and eye. She had to get there early and wasn't allowed to eat breakfast, so we spent last night at my cousin's house in Salt Lake. I was glad we did that since it made for a shorter drive to the hospital and a more pleasant morning for her. She was actually pretty happy until they wrapped her up in a sheet and put an IV in her foot. We had a good experience over all; the nurses were all kind and efficient and the procedure was done relatively quickly. They gave her a sedative (ketamine) that made her immobile but not unconscious; she was basically 'zoned' and never closed her eyes fully. They said they use it because it acts quickly and goes away quickly. P. Bibby seemed to recover pretty well from the sedative and after some breakfast we headed over for a consult with the craniofacial surgeon. We were surprised and relieved when he told us that her bone growth is normal and that she seems to have a case of plagiocephaly, which is a deformation of her skull due to sleeping position. Apparently the right side has become pushed out, causing the left side to look more pushed back. She is not a good candidate for a helmet due to her age, so we just have to wait for the problem to correct itself. If it doesn't start looking better in a few months I will take her back in for a follow-up visit. Today was a long day for us but I'm thankful we got the problem checked out and that we don't have to do any major intervention after all.

Heading into the CT machine Right after the scan when she was still pretty sedated.
Waking up a bit and acting really loopy.

Back home feeling good as new and eating a banana for lunch.

What a relief. That is very good news! Hopefully, everything will straighten out on its own.
